It's really a lot of ways to start, each of them has its pros and cons, and I'm going to introduce them to You, but if You think that I will write here the magical, universal way to make a great start then sorry but You're wrong.

A prologue or prolog is an opening to a story that establishes the setting and gives background details, often some earlier story that ties into the main one, and other miscellaneous information. The Ancient Greek prólogos included the modern meaning ofprologue, but was of wider significance, more like the meaning of preface.

Starting from the beginning of the book You have an easier task. Events are arranged chronologically and You and the reader is easier to catch. It is also the most common way to start the book. What are the cons? At the beginning of history is not always something going on, and nowadays the reader easily bored and if You do not immerse Yourself in the world of action or not feel a hero, They throw the book into a corner after ten pages.

Starting from the middle of history You throw the character into the action, and the reader is wondering not only how it happened but also what happens next. With this method, You must use the flashback, which not every aspiring writer can do right.

Starting from the end of history You immediately interested reader. The hero soon face the unimaginable, but how did this happen? The cons is that You have to cut backon the events, which You can get lost.

Prologues are outdated, but sometimes still used. The flaw is that it usually is a completely separate stories so readers treat them as unnecessary lines of text - they don't like. The advantage is that the prologues usually bring to the story some important information.
